Creative Education Foundation – Building a better future through education
Sindh Education Foundation has been a pioneer in effectively engaging the
private sector and communities in government school revival through the
Adopt-A-School-Program (AASP). The program facilitates private sector and
civil society to adopt public or government run schools and undertake
educational improvements for children. Adopters represent a varied
mélange of individuals, organizations and groups including educationists,
concerned citizens, local CBOs, NGOs, and members of the armed forces.
SEF plays a facilitating role between the school and the adopter, providing
technical assistance and monitoring for school improvement. The program
has made significant progress in both quantitative and qualitative terms;
starting out in 1998, AASP is now supporting 582 government schools with
the help of 102 school adopters in 18 districts of the province, benefiting
over 131,000 children and approximately 4,981 teachers. This reflects the
growing interest and inclination of civil society and the private sector in
the revival of public sector education.
The results have been remarkable in terms of infrastructural improvements
and enrichment of the teaching-learning process within the schools. The
program, envisioned by Prof. Anita Ghulam Ali (S.I.), has been recognized
at the national level and replicated across other provinces of the country.
Adopters are required to develop and implement a School Development Plan
and monitor progress against defined targets. They also participate in
relevant events and activities organized by SEF while ensuring a congenial
working environment within schools. Additionally, adopters facilitate the
organization of value-adding, school-based activities to raise educational
standards.
SEF plays a vital role by disseminating information to adopters, District
Education Offices (DEOs), communities, and school staff. It acts as a liaison
between all stakeholders involved in school improvement and provides
ongoing technical support. Through school adoption, the Sindh Education
Foundation strives to establish sustainable public-private partnerships for
long-term government school improvement.
